Some conclusions until now
This is about SAI, yes, the software I've been using lately.
I can't find an strong difference between using SAI and PS, just a few things that don't have importance ( I hope so
).One of them is the colors, more bright colors with SAI, I don't know if this is good or bad or whatever , but I believe that the drawings looks more like manga or anime
Another thing is that it's a little bit easier to work with Sai than PS BUT the Filters and effects are better using PS.
So Sai is a way better for drawing and sketching , but PS it's a lot better than SAI when you use effects. So I need to use both of them
In other news... I now that you've noticed that Golden is everywhere now here on my page
well it's strange but suddenly I began to feel the necessity to draw her, and I like it, I have tons of images in my mind and Golden appears in all of them 
, maybe I'm crazy?, obsessed?, or it's just that Golden deserves all this attention? Who knows , but the fact is I'll not stop drawing her for a while

As far as art programs go, I can't really make too many comments on SAI since I can't get my hands on it. On the other hand, I do have Gimp, Painter X or XI, and Photoshop. Sadly, aside from better memory usage in Gimp and filter effects from either set, Gimp and PS (7 and CS3) are fairly close in capability. That and CS3 can handle 3D files imports if you're painting around a model. Painter is the closest thing I've played with that can produce similar effects to actual painted or inked mediums. Problems are that it's a bit limiting, but at least you can undo many mistakes that in doing by hand you could only cringe over.
And, it's great to see that you're back and drawing again!
About the programs, I heard about Painter but to tell you the truth, I haven't learnt all about SAI or PS , I don't want to know another headache with the name Painter

I love anything that is old school gaming, not to mention that i'm a big fan of Princess Peach too.
plus, you can have really big draws with less memory usage
if you wanna use some filters and effects, later you can use the photoshop
I still have 5.5 version and a CS3 portable.. the filters are still usable but my forte is no the color.. bad thing...
anyway.. is true that the SAI has somehow, more bright colors..
maybe is the basic color pallete... maybe..

What I'd like to do is do a clean vector of it all, but I suck at Illustrator.

If you don't have a tablet, my advice is that you need tons of patience with vectors, you need to use the eraser constantly, there is no other way
